The rocking test is a crucial diagnostic procedure used to assess the wear and play in the slew bearing of ship deck cranes. It measures the relative movement between the inner and outer race of the bearing, providing early warning signs of bearing degradation.
Conducted in four measured positions with the jib aligned accordingly
Helps prevent catastrophic failures due to undetected bearing wear
Recommended frequency: Once every six months, or as per manufacturer guidance
